Fluoride Varnish
Fluoride varnish is a highly concentrated form of fluoride
that is applied to the teeth to help prevent tooth decay, strengthen tooth enamel, and protect against cavities. It
is a commonly used treatment in both pediatric and adult dentistry and is particularly beneficial for patients at
higher risk of tooth decay, such as children, those with dry mouth, or individuals who have poor oral hygiene
practices.
Procedure
After your cleaning and exam, the topical fluoride varnish is applied to your
teeth with a very small brush (almost like a paint brush.) You’ll be able to feel a thin film across your teeth
and when you do, you’ll know it’s working
After applying fluoride varnish or gel to your teeth, wait for about 30 minutes without eating or drinking and
refrain from eating or drinking hot liquid or foods. This Varnish needs time to soak into your enamel and protect
your teeth from harm.
Fluoride varnish is an effective, easy-to-apply preventive dental treatment that offers significant benefits in
preventing tooth decay, remineralizing enamel, and reducing tooth sensitivity. It is widely used in pediatric
dentistry but is also beneficial for patients of all ages, including those with special needs or who are at high
risk for cavities. Fluoride varnish is a safe, affordable, and non-invasive option for maintaining oral health, and
it plays an important role in a comprehensive approach to cavity prevention and overall dental care.
